Your last paragraph contrasting Tyto Wetlands with Yandina deserves closer appraisal. I don't argue with the figures, millions spent, local jobs - but almost none of this applies to the original concept - to rebuild and revegetate 90 hectares of degraded common grazing and swamp. In the past 10 years, apart from three small building projects - good lookout shelter, poorly designed hide, totally useless western walkway platform overlooking artificial wee waterhole - almost no positive revegetation has been done anywhere near the main lagoon. Meanwhile extensive weedicide spraying has played a part in loss of much important habitat, specially at the water edge. The $15 million bought much concrete and steel, info centre, library, art gallery, restaurant, huge lookout, duck ponds park decoration, and haphazard edge of parkland plantings.

Virtually in spite of all the interference by the shire, most bird species have continued to inhabit the area. But nothing has been spent to assay Tyto's flora and fauna, so the shire has no idea what's important.

Probably it should realise it's important not to drive over and spray over swamp ricegrass, prime habitat of its iconic species, the Eastern Grass Owl.

That would make a good startTyto Tonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03834120720077625697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4708258683294269863.post-50408615149313391292015-07-26T18:53:05.555+10:002015-07-26T18:53:05.555+10:00like your article in the Australian Greg. just out...like your article in the Australian Greg. just out of interest, where do the so called "lessees" intend sending their harvested cane to be processed? do they intend trucking it to Bundaberg? what a farce!
