The island has been transformed into an unofficial bird sanctuary by FNPF (Friends of the National Parks Foundation), a local Balinese conservation and community development NGO, founded by Bali's leading bird veterinarian Dr Bayu Wirayudha. To date they have released 75 Bali Starlings since 2006, and there are over 100 now flying and breeding freely. The island communities don't steal the birds, despite them being so valuable on the illegal bird market, because FNPF runs many projects that benefit the locals.
You can read more at http://www.fnpf.org/what-we-do/nusa-penida-bali/wildlife/bali-starling-conservation-project
Also, you can stay in FNPF's guest accommodation as volunteers or eco tourists.
http://www.fnpf.org/get-involved/volunteer-in-indonesia/volunteer-in-bali-on-nusa-penida
All the best ...Alanelkadhihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14512471657513065013noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4708258683294269863.post-87752191611630880082012-02-03T05:45:12.327+10:002012-02-03T05:45:12.327+10:00That's great to read Greg!
